biography
Justin has been tattooing since 1995 in Boston. He received his first professional license in 2001 from the City of Cambridge. Justin also has studied fine arts at Boston University, graduating with a BFA in painting in 1999. Justin was first turned onto tattooing by John Moniz of Electric Ink Tattoo in East Providence RI, by giving him many of his first custom tattoos.
Justin has been drawn to the arts since he was very young, highlighting many memories of visiting art museums around the world. His exposure to and training in formal classic art provides him a strong basis in figure drawing, light and shade, the human form, perspective drawing and composition.
Justin's vision lies in soft black and grey tonal tattooing, influenced by Italian Baroque painters and sculptors such as Caravaggio and Bernini. He is also heavily influenced by modern artists such as Francis Bacon. His work focuses on fine art reproduction, portraiture, rendering of the human form, and compelling images that are either subtle and intimate, or horrifying and confrontational. Justin likes to reference modern popular subject matter as well. Justin also looks towards contemporary tattoo artists, Robert Hernandez, Filip Leu, Aaron Cain, Guy Aitchenson, Cory Kruger, Bob Tyrell, Shane O'Neil, Boris, and Claus Furhmann.
Justin prides himself with his ability to construct a strong relationship with his clients and a clear line of communication with them about their vision and direction of their custom work. His compulsion for creation paired with an enormous visual inventory of images provides for an experience in tattooing like no other.
